Democratic mayoral nominee Muriel Bowser came prepared Friday, with her campaign announcing just a day before that former mayor Anthony Williams had endorsed her and would join her parade entourage. Bowser couldn’t have picked a better parade partner—as Williams walked by, paradegoers stood up from their lawn chairs and applauded the two-term mayor.
District of Columbia schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson says better planning is needed to prevent a “cannibalistic environment” between charter schools and traditional public schools. Henderson’s comments to The Washington Post (http://tinyurl.com/mztfg59 ) came in response to news that a science-themed charter school plans to open this fall across the street from a traditional school that serves the same grades and has the same academic focus.
Three men have pleaded guilty for their roles in a drive-by shooting that left 13 people injured in northwest Washington. Twenty-year-old Andrew D. Allen, 22-year-old Keith D. Bobb and 21-year-old Arnell L. Smith, all of Washington, entered the pleas Thursday in D.C. Superior Court. Each pleaded guilty to 13 counts of assault with intent to kill and other offenses.
